Constituency Statement - Fusion Western Sydney
3 November 2011
Last week I was privileged to attend the official opening of Fusion Western Sydney’s new centre in St Mary’s. I have had a long association with Fusion, officially opening their previous Western Sydney centre over 10 years ago when I was the Mayor of Penrith. Over the years I have watched Fusion grow from
strength to strength, and the opening of this new centre marks a significant milestone for the people of Western Sydney. The centre was officially opened by 2011 Australian of the Year, Simon McKeon, who generously turned down an invitation to join the queen at a CHOGM event in Perth to accept my
invitation to open the centre in St Mary’s. more>> |

Bills Business Names Registration Bill 2011, Business Names Registration (Transitional and Consequential Provisions) Bill 2011, Business Names Registration (Fees) Bill 2011
12 September 2011
I would like to thank all members for their contributions to this debate on the Business Names Registration Bill 2011, the Business Names Registration (Transitional and Consequential Provisions) Bill 2011 and the Business Names Registration (Fees) Bill 2011. Australia is one economy, one market. Therefore, it is only appropriate that it should have regulatory frameworks that minimise fragmented and inconsistent regulation that makes it harder to do business across state and territory borders and adds to the compliance burden of
business. more>> |

second annual reading day, which began with a show at Centrebet Stadium followed by a reading hunt at Centro Nepean, where I happily read a book to an excited young audience. more>>

Clean Energy Bill 2011- Speech to the House of Representatives
15 September 2011
I rise to speak on the Clean Energy Bill 2011 and the 18 bills being debated concurrently. The scientific evidence that climate change is occurring is compelling. The last decade was the world’s warmest on record. Each decade since the 1940s has been warmer than the previous one. The sea level is rising. Human health impacts are already evident, and many plant and animal species are under threat. more>> |

Matters of Public Importance - Border Protection
13 September 2011
This matter of public importance debate goes to the heart of the power of executive government. It is a debate that has arisen in the context of a decision of the High Court where the High Court has overturned what was believed to be the position of an act that was passed by this parliament. When an act is passed by this parliament—I am not going to lecture people on the separation of powers—the courts will interpret matters in an appropriate way. When this parliament decides on a course of action it has democratic legitimacy. more>> |
