Penrith Jobs Expo

15/06/2010

I rise to take note of the recent Jobs Expo held in Penrith and to acknowledge the phenomenal success that this expo had in linking up job seekers with employment opportunities. It has been a source of great pride to me to be a part of a government that acted quickly and decisively during the global financial crisis to save the jobs of over 200,000 Australians. This is a part of the government’s record of which I am proud and something that I think also highlights the failures of the opposition. They opposed the stimulus package.more>>

15/06/2010

Over the last 2½ years schools right around this country have been undergoing a revolution, but it appears as though the counterrevolution has begun. Computers in Schools Program

02/06/2010

I rise to express my anger at the proposal from the opposition to rip away funding that has been allocated for computers for schools in relation to the digital education revolution—the computers in schools program. This has been a wonderful program. In my community this has delivered enormous benefits to local students. The first round of computers that were allocated under this program went to those schools which had less than one computer for every eight students.more>>

Community Groups

01/06/2010

I rise to acknowledge the efforts of three active groups in my local community. Residents of Orchard Hills have formed the group Residents Against Industrial Dump to campaign against a proposed industrial waste facility at the old Erskine Park quarry at Patons Lane, Orchard Hills. The proposal is currently before the New South Wales state government. I am opposed to this proposal because of the adverse impacts it would have on our local community. If this waste facility proceeds it will result in hundreds of additional truck berthings, the possible disturbance of asbestos already on the site and, ultimately, a 30-metre-high bund wall to contain the waste.more>>
